Common questions and answers

Why do I need this certification?

WorkSafeBC (WCB) requires that all persons operating mobile equipment (forklifts, reach trucks, order pickers, electric pallet jacks, aerial work platforms) in BC be properly trained. This certification acknowledges that you have met the basic minimum standards of the WorkSafe regulations.

Who needs this training?

All persons who operate mobile equipment (forklifts, reach trucks, order pickers, electric pallet jacks, aerial work platforms) in the province of British Columbia.

I have been operating a forklift for years. What can you teach me?

Everyone can benefit from periodic refresher training. Even skilled operators can become complacent about safety. Over the years, shortcuts can become routine. During training, we will make you aware of any unsafe habits and instill the fact that accidents can happen to anybody. We will give you the tools and guidance you need to be a safer driver in a condensed half-day refresher course designed specifically for experienced operators.

How long is the certification good for?

An evaluation of each operator’s performance is required every two years.

Do you recertify operators that took their original training elsewhere?

If you have can provide proof (i.e. your training certificate) that you received safety training from a qualified trainer within the past three years, you may take the refresher course.

How long does the course take to complete?

The full course is a full day course (6-8 hours, depending on number of participants in the class) and includes both a written and a practical test. The recertification course for experienced operators is a half-day course (3-4 hours, depending on number of participants), including a written and practical test.

How do I register for a course?

Call MY Safety Training at (250) 870-2595, or send us an email. We will work with you to schedule a time that suits your operational needs.

Where are the courses held?

Courses are usually held on-site at the employer’s facility. This allows operators to train on the actual machine they will be operating. Occassionally, courses may be arranged at a training facility.

When are the courses scheduled?

Courses are scheduled around your needs! Early morning, daytime, evening or weekend schedules may be arranged. As we normally provide training on-site based on each organization’s requirements, there is no fixed schedule of course offerings. If you are an individual looking for training but have no access to a forklift on-the-job, we may still be able to accomodate you. Please contact us for details.

Will I have fun at this course?

While safety training is a very serious topic, it can be delivered in a fun way. We will have a few laughs along the road to improved safety.
