This course provides mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) operators with both theory and practical hands-on operation training on both scissor (3A) and boom lift (3B) equipment, including:

  • Review all current standards and regulations
  • Identify the different types of MEWP equipment
  • Review weight capacity of lift and extension deck
  • Review the basic parts and operation of MEWP
  • Review fall arrest requirements
  • Discuss emergency lowering techniques
  • Receive training on the safe operation of a MEWP
  • Complete a pre-shift inspection
  • Perform complete function tests
  • Review different types of fuels and fueling procedures
  • Practice safe driving, raising & lowering techniques
  • Practical and theory evaluation

Skid Steer Safety

This course provides operators of skid steers (Bobcats) with theory and practical hands-on operation training, including:

  • Review all current standards and regulations
  • Identify the different types of skid steer equipment
  • Review the basic parts and operation of a skid steer
  • Receive training in the safe operation of a skid steer
  • Complete a pre-shift inspection
  • Review different types of fuels and fueling procedures
  • Practice safe driving, loading and unloading techniques (bucket and forks only)
  • Practical and theory evaluation

Bucket Truck Safety

This course provides operators of Vehicle-Mounted Aerial Devices (“bucket trucks”) with both theory and practical hands-on operation training, including:

  • Legal requirements under the WorkSafeBC
  • Requirements of CSA C225-00 Vehicle-Mounted Aerial Devices
  • Pre-shift inspection
  • Precautions for lifting, lowering, and moving
  • Review requirements of personal protective equipment including fall arrest systems
  • Operation of the vehicle-mounted aerial work platforms
  • Review safe operating practices
  • Lifting capacity
  • Use of emergency controls
  • Operator evaluation

Truck-mounted Utility Crane Safety (under 5T)

This course provides truck-mounted utility crane operators with both theory and practical hands-on operation training, including:

  • Review all current standards and regulations
  • Identify the most common types of truck-mounted crane equipment and attachments
  • Review the basic parts and operation of an articulated truck crane
  • Safe operation of a utility truck crane
  • Load chart evaluation
  • Perform pre-shift inspection
  • Safety video
  • Review electrical safety guidelines
  • Practice safe lifting, lowering, maneuvering and handling techniques
  • Basic rigging

Fall Protection

Fall Protection is a classroom-based course that provides participants with the basic information required to work safely at heights. Participants are expected to bring their fall protection equipment to class, as they will practice suiting up correctly during the course. This course includes:

  • Identify the different types of fall protection equipment
  • Review the basic parts and operation of fall protection equipment
  • Review fall protection plan
  • Review of accidents and causes
  • Managers and employees responsibilities
  • Review control zone and safety monitor
  • Theory evaluation

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

This course provides the basic information required for employees who handle, offer for transport, or transport dangerous goods by road. This classroom course includes:

  • Review of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and regulations, definitions and schedules
  • Identifying Dangerous Goods Class 1 through 9
  • Compatibility, risk and packaging groups
  • Responsibilities of consignor and carrier
  • Identify and demonstrate the proper use of placards, labelling and safety marking
  • Overview of shipping documentation
  • Review Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP) requirements

Duration: 4 hours
Cost: $75 per person

Option: Can be combined with the Forklift Safety Refresher or WHMIS course on the same day.
